Advance telemedicine is the use of telecommunication and information technology to eliminate the distance barrier and to improve the access to clinical services. Applied Medical Informatics studies the administration of medical statistics, the effective management of information using computer technology, and the impact of such methods on medical research, education. It is also used to save lives in critical care and emergency situations. Although there were distant precursors to telemedicine, it is essentially a product of 20th century telecommunication and information technologies.
